Accountancy firm invests in new trainees

George Crees and Ashley Foster have joined the team at our Darlington office on Coniscliffe Road.

George, who lives in Darlington, will receive on-the-job training by our existing tax team, all of whom are either chartered tax advisers or chartered accountants and will initially support the tax work undertaken for private clients. George will also start studying for his tax qualifications during his first year with us.

George, who has started as a tax trainee after A Levels at Carmel College, in Darlington, said: “I’m delighted to be given the chance to start a career in tax with Clive Owen. It’s a great opportunity and can’t wait to get started working towards my qualifications.”

Ashley, an accountancy graduate from Northumbria University, will start training to become a chartered accountant, having worked for a local haulage firm as an accounts assistant.

Said Ashley: “Joining an accountancy practice like Clive Owen LLP was always something I wanted to do from my school days and I’m pleased to be working for such a highly regarded firm.”

Chris Beaumont, one of our partners, said: “It’s great that we can offer these opportunities. I’m sure that as a team we can help George and Ashley form fantastic careers with Clive Owen which, in turn, will help us further expand our client base and offer our expertise to more new clients."

Tony Luckett, our managing partner Clive Owen, said: "It’s quite right that we look to develop future talent, particularly in tax, which is a specialised area and is changing on what seems like a weekly basis at the moment. Being one of the few firms between Newcastle and Leeds with a separate tax department means that we need to develop tax specialists to meet our clients needs and future expansion plans."

Our team has grown significantly over its 32-year history since Clive himself founded the firm. Since then, we have expanded further to work with a broad range of businesses across North East and Yorkshire offering specialised services such as corporate finance solutions, advice on Auto Enrolment and supporting businesses with grant applications and claims in excess of £140m.

Added Tony: “We believe that the people within the firm are well respected and our clients like to deal with local approachable people who are experts in their field. The development of trainees, like George and Ashley, represent an investment in the future of the firm and is a recognition of the growing demands for our tax services.”
