We have been contacted by some clients, who have received letters from “HMRC” asking them to pay unpaid tax and PAYE liabilities.
The letters appear to be genuine as they are written on HMRC headed paper with official looking references. However, the letters have a phone number that is not a HMRC phone number – therefore anyone calling the number could end up making a payment to a scammer.
The scammers appear to be taking advantage of various taxpayers organising payment plans with HMRC and thus have significant unpaid tax debts, so are regularly receiving letters from HMRC, even when a payment plan is agreed.
We would urge anyone that receives a payment demand from HMRC to check it against their own records or with ourselves, if we assist you with PAYE, corporate tax, personal tax or VAT.
Finally, we would also urge you to ensure that your VAT bank details are correct – find out more here.
As ever, if you have any queries, please get in touch.
