The 13th annual report includes data from over 260 Trusts representing 2,300 schools and reflects on another unique year for the sector, with SEND, failing pupil rolls and rising staff costs all major concerns.

In the report
The report highlights key issues affecting the sector, showing the squeeze on all types and size of trusts, but particularly SATs which recorded average surpluses of just £1,000.
Trust leaders are becoming increasingly concerned about financial reserves, and whilst the government released guidance about setting academy trust reserves in October 2024 which stated that almost 90% of trusts held reserves of at least 5% of total income, our data shows almost a third of Trusts held less than 5%.
