Meet your finance experts:

Michael Cantwell

 

Michael is a Chartered Accountant who qualified in 2003 and has gone on to enjoy a successful career in corporate finance. He joined Clive Owen in 2024 and leads our Corporate Finance team, bringing with him a wealth of experience and expertise advising businesses across a diverse range of sectors.

Michael’s 20-year corporate finance experience has seen him involved in a broad range of corporate finance assignments, for a variety of public and private clients, from SMEs to large corporates. This provides Michael with a beneficial high-level view of market conditions, company performance and business strategy, alongside a deep understanding of the financial systems and modelling of these various businesses.

 

Carl Wright

 

Carl is a Chartered Accountant who qualified in 2011 and joined Clive Owen in 2014 after 5 years at a regional practice. Over the past 10 years, Carl has been involved in over 100 due diligence assignments. This includes supporting family owned and private equity back buyers with corporate acquisitions, most recently in the hospitality, clean energy and manufacturing sectors.

Carl also leads our Grant Advisory Services team and has helped businesses, charities and not-for-profits to secure over £300m of grant funding. Carl’s team also provide due diligence services to several grant awarding bodies including Tees Valley Combined Authority, West Yorkshire Combined Authority, and UMi Commercial Ltd.

 

Joe Vera Sanso

 

A Chartered Management Accountant, Joe has a background in business development and budgeting prior to moving to Clive Owen LLP to undertake due diligence and corporate finance work.

His previous experience includes developing complex bids and multimillion-pound budgets for programmes funded by some of the UK’s largest energy suppliers to standards and formats set by national bodies, including Ofgem. This included delivering market analysis to understand and exploit opportunities. He delivers due diligence on grants and transactions, using his background to bridge accountancy and commercial analysis.
