Career history
I trained as a (Scottish) Chartered Accountant with Arthur Andersen in Edinburgh after graduating with a degree in Accountancy and Finance from Heriot Watt University. I then moved to London and worked for Moores Rowland (Tax Specialists) and completed my Chartered Tax qualification.
In 1995 I moved to Aberdeen and joined KPMG, working as a manager in their tax team for 10 years. After living abroad for a few years, I joined MacIntyre Hudson LLP in Peterborough and worked as a tax manager until 2015 when a change in my husband’s job meant a move north to Darlington. I was happy to join Clive Owen’s Tax Team as a Senior Tax Manager in January 2016.

Experience and expertise
As a tax adviser with over 25 years of experience, working for a variety of firms, I enjoy looking after the tax compliance of owner managed businesses and high net worth clients.
Having advised on Inheritance Tax and Capital Gains Tax planning throughout my career I decided to cement my knowledge a few years ago and embarked on the study programme required to become a qualified member of STEP (the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners). I particularly enjoy using my skills to help clients to achieve the best all round tax position.

Career highlights
Gaining my STEP qualification and achieving a distinction in the Taxation of Estates and Trusts paper.
Did you always want to be an accountant?
I originally wanted to be a fire fighter having had a pre-school fixation with Trumpton! Unfortunately a fear of heights put an end to that ambition and when a love of maths and making things balance took over I decided that a career based on accountancy was right for me.
Hobbies and interests
I love to be outside, whether it’s walking our dog, running, playing tennis or sitting with my neighbours enjoying a chat and a glass of wine.
