Career history
Trained and qualified with Deloitte, Haskins & Sells in Birmingham in the West Midlands prior to working offshore in Jersey in the Channel Islands with Coopers & Lybrand. Returned to the UK in 1988 to join Clive Owen as an audit senior advancing to Partner in 1993. Became the firm’s Managing Partner in 2015 for 6 years before passing on the mantle to Gary Ellis.

Deal with a wide range of owner managed businesses helping to solve both business and taxation problems in many sectors ranging from Professional firms to manufacturing businesses and many in between, together with charities.

Corporate social responsibility
Being a trustee at St Teresa’s Hospice use to take up most of my time in this area, although now I just have Finance Committee responsibilities.

Helping the firm grow from just 15 people when I joined with 1 office to now being 4 offices with over 120 staff.
Did you always want to be an accountant?
I did think about becoming an astronaut but I don’t like heights! So accountancy became the obvious alternative.
Hobbies and interests
Cricket, rugby and football – honestly, I do want all of the local clubs to do well because it’s good for the North East and hopefully give’s everyone a feel good factor.
